A Taunton College alumnus will be its new headmaster

TAUNTON — Jaimie Pereira spent part of her school days at Joseph H. Martin Middle School. Now she returns as director.

Pereira, associate principal at Taunton High School, will take office on July 1, Superintendent John Cabral said when he announced Pereira’s appointment.

“As an alumnus of Martin herself, Jaimie has a deep understanding of what it means to be part of the school community and how students’ experiences at school can positively impact their future,” said Cabral. “I look forward to seeing her continue to build on the great work of the Martin School as she leads those who sit in the same classes she attended.”

“It is deeply meaningful to become the principal of the school where my educational experience began,” Pereira said, adding that her two children also attended Martin Middle School. “I have a great love for the Martin school and its teachers, past and present, and as such, I am extremely proud and delighted to accept this new position.”

Pereira has been Associate Director at THS since October 2016. In this role, she implemented and oversaw the student discipline system; attendance procedures applied; planned and supervised all emergency preparedness programs; assisted in the planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching programs, and more.

She has also served as Head of the Attendance Review Committee and the Student Leader Guild, Director of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Team Steering Committee, and Executive Member of the Block Schedule Revision Committee. She has also worked as lead writer for the NEASC self-assessment report, and grant writer and monitor for the Department of Primary and Secondary Education’s Safe and Supportive Schools grant.

Outside of the classroom, Pereira is involved in the greater Taunton community. She is Vice President of the Taunton High School Alumni Association and Face to Face Hockey Club, Parent Manager of the Taunton High School Women’s Soccer Program and has coached the soccer league young people from the city. She is also a member of numerous professional associations and organizations.

Pereira holds a Bachelor’s degree in English, a Master of Arts in Teaching (English), and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Instructional Leadership, all from Bridgewater State University. She is a member of the class of 1995 at Taunton High School.
