Gilbert junior high student brings BB gun to school

GILBERT, Ariz. (3TV/CBS 5) – A Gilbert middle school student is in serious trouble after bringing a BB gun to school on Monday. Gilbert police say they responded to a report that a student had a weapon on school property at Mesquite Junior High School. The officer investigated and filed disorderly conduct charges with the Maricopa County District Attorney’s Office. It will be up to prosecutors whether or not to pursue a criminal case against the student. School officials said no students or staff were at risk. “Gilbert Public Schools takes incidents like this very seriously. The safety of our students and staff is always a top priority,” the district said in a statement.

Dear Mesquite Junior High families,

It is important to us to keep our parents and families as informed as possible of any incident involving our campus and our students.

Today reports were received of a student on campus who brought a BB gun to school. The Mesquite Junior High Administration acted immediately and at no time were students or employees in danger. The Gilbert Police Department was notified immediately and the investigation is ongoing.

Providing a safe and secure learning environment is a top priority for Gilbert Public Schools and Mesquite Junior High School. Rest assured that we take incidents like this very seriously. Thank you for your continued support of our students and our school.


It came just days after a student brought a gun to the campus of an elementary school in Queen Creek.
