Houston Independent School District: Firearm confiscated from Westside High School student

HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) — HISD sent out an appeal to all parents of students at Westside High School on Wednesday due to a firearm confiscation.

Authorities said the weapon never entered the school and no one was injured.

Additional HISD officers will be on patrol during the dismissal on Wednesday afternoon for extra precautions, authorities said.

HISD sent the following statement to parents:

“This is an important message for parents at Westside from Principal Keri Wittpenn. I must inform you of an incident that occurred this morning. We discovered that a student arriving on campus had a weapon. The Houston Police Department responded and the weapon was confiscated before the student entered the building, and no one was injured.Please know that we take these situations very seriously, as the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school secretary at 281-920-8000. Again, this was an important message for Westside parents from Principal Keri Wittpenn.”
