LiveSchool publishes a major survey on school culture in the United States

NASHVILLE, Tennessee, April 14, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — LiveSchool today announced the release of The school culture reporta comprehensive look at trends in school culture in the United States based on a March survey of American teachers.

Survey respondents represented 48 states and Washington, DC, and included principals, vice-principals, student deans, teachers, and paraprofessionals. The survey explored educators’ perceptions of student behavior, school culture and staff morale.

“Our survey indicates just how serious the cultural challenge is for schools. Educators are saying loud and clear that they need help dealing with the underlying conditions in which students learn,” says Matt Rubinstein, CEO and founder of LiveSchool, a school cultural platform.

Key findings include:

  • 68% of respondents cited student behavior as the biggest challenge facing their school.
  • Over 71% of teachers cited “disrespectful conduct” as the top behavioral problem. Another 61% cited socio-emotional skills.
  • 57% of respondents expect behavioral referrals to increase or increase significantly this year.
  • Teacher morale is at an all-time low: 99% of teachers rated teacher morale as low. 72% of administrators rated teacher morale as low.
  • 80% of administrators cited school culture as their number one priority next year.

According to a Tennessee vice principal, “This year we’ve seen some unprecedented behaviors that have given us some insight into the goals we need to set for school culture next year.”
