McQueen High school student killed in shooting

RENO, Nevada (KOLO) – MON. 7:00 PM UPDATE: The shooting victim, Alexander Sanabria, was a student at McQueen High School. Today, McQueen Principal Amy Marable released the statement below:

Dear McQueen families,

It’s your principal, Mrs. Marable. I call you with a heavy heart to inform you of the sudden and unexpected passing of one of our McQueen students.

The school district is committed to helping our students, staff, and families cope with grief and loss. McQueen Advisors and the District Crisis Support Team assisted McQueen today and will be readily available to provide ongoing support.

Your child may have feelings and questions that they would like to discuss with you. You can help your child by taking the time to listen and encouraging him to express his feelings. All children are different and will express their feelings in different ways. We encourage you to access the available resources and contact information listed in the Connect Ed email. Please keep an eye on your child and let us know how we can help you and your child.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Reno Police Department is investigating after an 18-year-old was fatally shot over the weekend.

Police say Alexandre Sanabria arrived in Renown on Saturday May 7, 2022 at around 2:10 a.m. with a gunshot wound. He later died in hospital.

Detectives investigate a murder, but don’t believe it was random or that there was any danger to the public.

A $2,500 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest of the suspect(s).
