Muscle Shoals High School student killed in wreck

TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (WAFF) – A Sheffield teenager was killed in a wreck Saturday night, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

According to ALEA, the 15-year-old was fatally injured when the car he was in left the road and hit a tree. The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene on Blue Rd., just five miles south of Tuscumbia.

Muscle Shoals City Schools Superintendent Dr. Chad Holden identified the teenager as Harley Scruggs.

Soldiers say the driver and a passenger in the back seat, who were also minors, were injured and airlifted to a hospital. The manager said Harley’s brother Nicolae and his cousin Kailey were also in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Dr. Holden released a statement.

“The Muscle Shoals family is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of freshman Harley Scruggs. Friends have described her as having an infectious smile and a warm heart.

There will be additional counselors on site at Muscle Shoals High School on Monday for any students or staff who need them.

The high school administration also set up a memory table in front of the auditorium for students to leave notes of encouragement for Harley’s family and to wish good luck to her brother, Nicolae, and cousin, Kailey.

Plus, on Tuesday, February 8, we’ll have a “Wear Blue for Harley” day in his honor. Donations for the family will be collected Tuesday at all school campuses.

The family also established a GoFundMe account to help with funeral expenses.
