Plainfield high school student killed in car accident: report

CANTERBURY, CT – Plainfield High School student Andrew Vincent, 17, was killed in a car accident around 12:30 a.m. Saturday near Water Street in Canterbury, according to media including Fox 61.

Vincent was driving an Audi A4 at the time of the crash and his vehicle ended up hitting a utility pole, Fox 61 reported. An 18-year-old passenger in the vehicle was seriously injured in the crash. The accident is under investigation.

Christopher Bitgood, the principal of Plainfield High School, released a statement on Saturday about the the school’s Facebook page. In the statement, Bitgood wrote that “we are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of one of our students from Plainfield High School who tragically passed away last night.”

“The entire PHS community sends their sincere condolences to the family,” Bitgood wrote, adding that bereavement counseling will be available through next week.

“We wanted all parents and families to be aware of the situation so that you can take this opportunity to discuss it with your child and help them deal with it. Talk with your child about their feelings about the tragedy and share also your feelings.

“Talk about what happened; give your child information he can understand. Reassure your child that he is safe; you may need to repeat this often. Listen and comfort your child often .

“…The Plainfield community is a strong and resilient community, and we will heal together. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time of loss and grief,” the letter concludes.
